Privacy Policy

Updated: February 2026

Our Commitment to Privacy

This Privacy Policy outlines the commitment of UnivFax (“we”, “us”, “our”) to protect your personal information when you use the Kooking mobile applications for iOS and Android and any related websites (together, the “Service”).

By registering for or using the Service, or by providing personal information to us, you agree to this Privacy Policy and consent to the collection, use, storage, and disclosure of your personal information as described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

We operate globally and aim to comply with applicable privacy laws, including (where they apply to us) the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

The Personal Information We Collect

The types of personal information we collect depend on how you use Kooking. This may include:

  • Account and profile information: name, username, email address, profile photo or avatar, bio, and authentication data (including passwords or tokens for email and Google sign‑in via Firebase Auth).
  • Social and content information: recipes you create or import (including images and descriptions), comments, likes, follows and followers, saved recipes, shopping lists, and any other content you upload or share through the Service.
  • Preferences and personalization information: cuisines, dietary preferences (e.g., vegan, vegetarian), meal types (e.g., lunch, desserts), and other details you provide so we can tailor recommendations.
  • Usage and device information: device model and identifier, operating system, app version, IP address, mobile network, language, time zone, and information about how you interact with the Service (screens viewed, features used, taps, time in app).
  • Location information: approximate location derived from your device or IP address so we can improve relevance of content and ads, where permitted by your device settings.
  • Notifications data: push notification tokens used to send you alerts about follows, comments, likes, saves, and app updates.
  • In‑app purchase and transaction information: details related to purchases you make through Apple App Store or Google Play (we do not store full payment card details; these are handled by the platform providers).

You may choose not to provide certain information, but some features of the Service may not be available if you do.

Kooking is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided personal information, please contact us using the details below.

Online Services and Usage Data

When you use Kooking, we automatically collect usage and analytics data through technologies such as Firebase Analytics and Google Analytics. This may include:

  • Pages and screens you visit in the app, recipes you view or interact with, and buttons or features you use.
  • Device identifiers, IP address, browser or app type, dates and times of access, and referral information.
  • Shopping lists and recipe interactions related to grocery planning features.

We use cookies, SDKs, and similar technologies in our websites and apps to remember your preferences, understand how the Service is used, and improve performance. You can manage cookies in your browser settings and limit certain tracking through your device privacy settings or Google’s opt‑out tools (for example, the Google Analytics opt‑out browser add‑on and ad settings).

Use of Personal Information

We may use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • To operate, maintain, and provide the Service and its features (profiles, recipes, Explore, Saved, shopping lists, notifications, and other core functionality).
  • To authenticate you, secure your account, and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms.
  • To personalize your experience, including:
    • AI‑powered recommendations and “For You” feeds based on your cuisines and dietary preferences, and on your in‑app activity (likes, saves, views, follows).
    • Surfacing relevant “Viral Eats” and similar sections that highlight trending recipes and content.
  • To send you push notifications and in‑app messages about follows, comments, likes, saves, updates to your content, and important Service information; you can control notifications in your device settings or in‑app.
  • To provide customer support, respond to your requests, and communicate about changes to the Service or this Privacy Policy.
  • To analyze usage, improve and develop the Service, and test new features using Firebase Analytics and Google Analytics.
  • To deliver and measure advertising in the app (including interest‑based ads through ad networks), subject to your device‑level ad and tracking settings.
  • To support in‑app purchases and manage your subscriptions or paid features via Apple and Google.
  • To comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our rights.

We may de‑identify or aggregate information so that it can no longer reasonably identify you. We may use and share such anonymized data for research, analytics, and business purposes.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We may share your personal information in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: with trusted third‑party vendors who help us operate the Service, including Firebase (authentication, analytics, infrastructure), Google (sign‑in, analytics), ad networks, crash/diagnostics providers, and customer support tools.
  • In‑app social features: information you share in public areas (for example, public profiles, recipes, comments, likes, and follower counts) may be visible to other users of Kooking and may be shared outside the Service by those users.
  • Payment processors and app stores: with Apple and Google for processing in‑app purchases; your payment details are handled under their privacy policies.
  • Legal and compliance: to regulators, law enforcement, courts, or other third parties where we believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of UnivFax, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy or a policy with substantially similar protections.
  • With your consent: we may share your information for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection or with your explicit consent.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Some uses of analytics or advertising cookies and SDKs may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under certain privacy laws; your rights related to this are described below.

Ads and Analytics

Kooking uses third‑party analytics and advertising partners such as Firebase Analytics and Google Analytics to help us understand usage and improve the Service and to deliver ads. These providers may use cookies, mobile identifiers, or similar technologies to collect information about your use of the Service and other apps or sites over time for analytics and interest‑based advertising.

You can:

  • Manage tracking and ad preferences through your device settings (e.g., iOS App Tracking Transparency, Android Ads settings).
  • Use Google’s tools to opt out of certain analytics and ads, where available.

International Transfers

We operate globally and may process and store your personal information in countries other than where you reside, including in data centers operated by Firebase and Google. These countries may have different data protection laws than your own.

Where required by law, we will take appropriate steps (such as using standard contractual clauses or relying on other lawful transfer mechanisms) to protect your information when it is transferred internationally.

Security and Storage

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and Firebase security features. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Service, for legitimate business purposes, or as required by law.

Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your Kooking account either directly in the app or by contacting us at univfax@gmail.com. When you request account deletion:

  • We delete personal data stored in our databases (including profile, recipes, comments, likes, saves, shopping lists, notification tokens, and associated device/location information) generally within 24 hours.
  • Some data (for example, backups or logs) may persist for a limited time for security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance, after which it will be deleted or irreversibly anonymized.
  • Content that has been shared with other users (for example, comments on their recipes) may continue to exist in those users’ accounts even after your account is deleted.

You may also uninstall the app from your device at any time, but this will not by itself delete your account or data stored on our servers.

Imported Recipes and Copyright

Kooking allows users to import recipes from external websites for their own convenience. When a user chooses to import a recipe, they are solely responsible for ensuring that they have the right to use that content and that their use complies with any applicable terms, copyright, or other rights of the original creator or website.

For every imported recipe, Kooking will display a link back to the original recipe source on the recipe page, so that proper credit is given to the original creator wherever possible. We do not independently verify the accuracy, ownership, or licensing of imported recipes, and we are not responsible for users’ importing decisions or for any third‑party content they choose to save in the app.

If you are the owner or authorized representative of a recipe that appears in Kooking via user import and you believe it infringes your copyright or other rights, you can contact us at univfax@gmail.com with details of the content and the original source URL. After receiving a valid request, we will review it and may remove or disable access to the recipe within a reasonable time, especially where the content is clearly copyrighted or used without permission.

Your Rights

GDPR – EU/UK Residents

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights, subject to certain limitations:

  • Right of access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) where there is no overriding reason for us to continue processing.
  • Right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability for information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used, machine‑readable format.
  • Right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including profiling and certain forms of marketing or AI‑based personalization.
  • Right to withdraw consent where processing is based on your consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before consent was withdrawn.

To exercise these rights, contact us at univfax@gmail.com. We may request proof of identity and will respond within the time period required by law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Our legal bases for processing may include: performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (running, improving, and securing Kooking, and providing personalized content), compliance with legal obligations, and your consent where applicable.

CCPA – California Residents

If you are a resident of California, you may have the following rights regarding “personal information” as defined by the CCPA/CPRA:

  • Right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use, disclose, and (if applicable) “sell” or “share”.

  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross‑context behavioral advertising. We do not sell your personal information for money, but some analytics and advertising uses may be considered “sharing” under California law; you can limit this via device and browser settings and by requesting deletion.
  • Right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your CCPA rights.

To make a request, contact us at univfax@gmail.com and indicate that you are making a CCPA request. We will verify your identity before responding.

Minors

Kooking is intended only for individuals 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we learn that a user under 18 has provided personal information, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information and may terminate the account.

The Service may contain links or references to websites and content not operated by UnivFax. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third‑party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any site or service you visit.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technologies, or legal requirements. When we do, we will post the updated version within the app and/or on our website and update the “Last updated” date below. In some cases, we may also notify you by email or in‑app message.

Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
